Svetoslavsky Sergey (1857-1931) - an outstanding Ukrainian landscape painter and cartoonist. He was born in Kiev in 1857, where he spent most of his time.
Having moved from Kiev to Moscow, Sergey Ivanovich gained experience from masters Savrasov, Sorokin, Perov, Polenov and others. In the period from 1870 to 1883, he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In the 1890s, he actively participated in exhibitions of wanderers. In 1900, in Paris, he was awarded a bronze medal at the international exhibition of painting.
Returning to Kiev, Sergey Ivanovich opens his own studio, where he shares his experience with former students of KHU in 1905-1907. Later, he began working in the field of caricature, organizing charity exhibitions. In the last years of his life, due to a vision disease, he saw poorly and did not paint pictures. He died in Kiev in 1931, where he is buried.
