Buddha Amitayus is the Buddha of long life. Early references to the Buddha Amitayusa are contained in "Sukhavati-vyukhe" (I century A.D.). As one of the epithets of the BuddhaAmitabha is here called Amitayus, having an immeasurable, infinite life.The cult of Buddha Amitayus was fully formed in the IV century, and thanks to the "Amitayus-dhyana Sutra" (The Sutra of Contemplation Amitayusa) Amitayus began to be perceived as a relatively independent Buddha.
