Soviet Ukrainian painter . Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1964). Member of the Council of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR . He was born on March 10, 1924 in Odessa. He received his first drawing lessons in the studio at the city Palace of Pioneers. In 1941 he graduated from the Odessa Art College. Since the beginning of the war, he has been a short — term cadet at the military infantry school. After graduation , he immediately goes to the front . He was seriously wounded and shell - shocked in the battles for the Caucasus .  In 1950, he graduated from the I.E.Repin Institute in Leningrad in the workshop of R.R. Frents.  He received the title of painter and was assigned to the city of Yuzhno — Sakhalinsk , where he eventually became the head of the artists ' association . The thesis at the VAKH is "Walkers at V.I. Lenin". Participant of the Second World War . He worked in the field of easel painting.  In 1954, A.Z. Katz moved to Simferopol and actively joined the public life of the Crimean artists' collective. He taught at the Samokish Crimean Art College. Creative works : "Primorsky Boulevard" (1961), "Valya Volchishche — geodesist of the North Crimean Canal", triptych "Kobzar" (1964), triptych "For Land and Freedom" (1967), "Portrait of the artist G. Nissky" (1970). The artist's works are widely represented in many public and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
