Valentin Sergeevich Smirnov was born on July 13, 1927 in Yaroslavl. He graduated from the Yaroslavl Art College (1948) and the Kiev Art Institute (1955). The teachers of the specialty are S. Grigoriev, Ko. Trokhimenko, V. Kostetsky. He worked in the field of easel painting. Main works: "Waiting for Answers" (1957); "The Court" (1961); "Through the Ranks" (1963 – 1964); " I Love You" (1965); "Hunting Autumn" and others. Participated in national and All-Union exhibitions since 1957. He died on November 9, 2010.
