Ivan Gonchar was born on January 27, 1911 in the village of Lipyanka, Cherkasy region. He studied letters at a parochial school, where a portrait of Shevchenko hung at the head of the corner, among the icons, dressed in a wreath of periwinkle and viburnum. Decades later, these childhood impressions became the primary source of Goncharova Shevchenko. Having become a famous sculptor, Ivan Makarovich will create a monument to Shevchenko for his native village. From a boy from a large rural family to a famous sculptor and artist who managed to get through the Second World War and the whole furious era with a high forehead. The life of Ivan Gonchar is proof that talent and spirit create a person's destiny. In total, during the war years, the artist created more than 200 watercolors and graphic works (they were presented at his personal exhibition already during the independence of Ukraine, at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War in 1992-1994).
