Dvornikov lived a life not rich in external events. A peasant son, he was born on February 25 (February 13, 1862) in the village of Mashenki, Kursk province. After a while, the family moved to Kharkov, where his father took up baking bread. Tit Yakovlevich helped his father and at the same time studied at the Kharkov drawing school. He continued his art education in Odessa (1889-1891) and remained a student and admirer of Kiriak Konstantinovich Kostandi for the rest of his life.
