Alexander Deineka (1899-1969) was a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, muralist, poster artist. He studied at the Kharkov University (1914-1918) with R. M. Pestrikov, A.M. Lyubimov, at VKHUTEMAS (Moscow, 1920-1925) at the polygraphic faculty with V. A. Favorsky and N. I. Nivinsky. Founding member of the associations OST (1925), "October“ (1928), RAPH (1931). Participant of exhibitions since 1924: The first discussion exhibition of associations of active revolutionary art (1924), OST (1925-1928), "October" (1928-1930), RAPH (1931-1932). He headed the section of the Gubnarobraz Art Institute (1918), the art studio at the Kursk Political Administration (1919-1920). He worked in the Kursk branch of ROSTA, designed mass celebrations. In the 1930s and 1960s he participated in the decoration of the Moscow Metro stations, the Moscow State University on the Lenin Hills, the Palace of Congresses in the Kremlin. He taught at VKHUTEIN (Moscow, 1928-1930; professor — 1940). Member of the Presidium (since 1958), Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1962-1966), Academician-Secretary of the Department of Decorative Arts of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968-1969). The heroes of Alexander Deineka's works are young people whose images reflect the artist's ideal ideas about the builders of the new world - harmoniously developed, strong, beautiful, and vitally active. The traditions of classical art with its inherent cult of the beauty of a trained body, emphasized by the dynamic rhythms of the composition, help the master to reveal these qualities in a person.
