Bloemaert A. “The Allegory of autumn”

Abraham Bloemaert (1564-1651) was a Dutch painter.

Born December 25, 1564 in Gorkam. He studied with Gerrit Splinter in Utrecht and with Jost de Beer, and then from 1581 to 1584 in Paris with Jean Basso, Herri and Hieronymus Francken. Subsequently, the artist returned to Utrecht and became a member of the guild of St. Luke, and then its dean (1611-1628).

He worked in a variety of genres, from religious painting to still life, and was very famous. Blumarth had a great influence on the development of Dutch painting. Among his numerous students are Jan Bot with his brother Andris, Jakob Cuyp, his son Albert Cuyp, Jan Baptist Weenix and Nikolaus Knüpfer.

Combining in his work the traditions of the Dutch and Flemish schools of painting, he painted canvases on historical themes, portraits, genre scenes and landscapes.

Most of the surviving canvases of Blumart are kept in the San Francisco Museum of Fine Art, art galleries in Berlin and the Louvre.
