Kaufmann Carl (under the pseudonym Gilbert F.) (1843-1905) was a famous Austrian marine landscape painter representing the Vienna school of painting. He signed works both with his own name and pseudonyms (Charles Marchand, L, Van Howe, B. Lambert, C.Carlo, Henri Carnier, etc.) Studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in the painting and architecture departments. After graduation , he traveled a lot in Germany , Belgium and the west coast of France , making numerous full - scale sketches , later embodiments in paintings . In the 1880s-1890s he often visited Italy, dedicating many canvases to its views. The work is dominated by views of the coast with spectacular lighting. A separate theme in the artist 's work is the image of the views of the cities of the East . The works were sold at famous auctions.
